1. Statement of Intent


LD Harris Electrical is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of employees,
subcontractors, customers, and any other persons affected by our work.


We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and aim to:


● Provide safe systems of work
● Prevent accidents and work-related injury or ill health
● Ensure all work is carried out safely and to current standards
● Maintain safe tools, equipment, and working environments


This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as required.

2. Responsibilities


Overall Responsibility


Lee Harris (Owner) has overall responsibility for health and safety within LD Harris Electrical.
 

Duties include:


● Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation including The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Electricity Wiring   Regulations 1989 and BS:7671 latest edition
● Carrying out risk assessments and implementing control measures
● Ensuring all workers are competent and suitably trained
● Providing appropriate tools, equipment, and PPE
● Monitoring work to ensure safe practices are followed

Employees


Employees must:


● Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and others affected by their work
● Follow all instructions and safe working procedures
● Use equipment and PPE correctly
● Report hazards, defects, or incidents immediately

Subcontractors


Subcontractors must:


● Work in accordance with this Health & Safety Policy
● Provide evidence of competence, qualifications, and insurance where required
● Carry out work safely and in line with relevant regulations
● Supply and use appropriate tools and PPE unless agreed otherwise
● Report hazards, risks, and incidents immediately

3. Arrangements

 


Risk Assessments
● Risk assessments will be completed where required before and during work
● Hazards will be identified and controlled
● Work will not proceed if risks cannot be adequately managed
● Where subcontractors are involved, risks will be communicated and coordinated

Safe Working Practices


We will:


● Isolate and secure electrical supplies before working
● Use lock-off procedures and test for dead
● Follow current regulations (BS 7671)
● Keep work areas tidy and minimise hazards
● Use ladders and access equipment safely

Tools & Equipment


● All tools and equipment must be suitable and maintained in safe condition
● Faulty equipment must not be used
● Subcontractors are responsible for their own equipment unless agreed otherwise

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)


● Appropriate PPE will be used where required
● Employees will be provided with PPE
● Subcontractors must provide their own PPE unless agreed otherwise

Working Environment


● Work areas will be kept safe and organised
● Risks to customers, occupants, and other trades will be minimised
● Safe access and working conditions must be maintained

Manual Handling


● Manual handling will be carried out safely
● Assistance or lifting aids will be used where necessary

Hazardous Substances (COSHH)


● Hazardous materials will be used and stored safely
● Relevant safety information will be followed

Accident Reporting


● All accidents, near misses, and incidents must be reported
● Records will be kept where required
● Reportable incidents will be notified under RIDDOR

Training & Competence


● All work will be carried out by competent persons
● Training will be provided where required
● Subcontractors must be suitably qualified and experienced

Monitoring & Review


● Work will be monitored to ensure compliance
● This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as needed.
